Merchant Fleets

Where can these Merchant Fleets be found , and how often are they present?

I am in a 1-4 area , i have found some lvl 3 Kraken but have yet to spot a merchant ship. Do you have to get close to them or can one see them from any distance anywhere on the map?

Merchant Fleets travel between trading stations in the 15+ area.

U can see them from everywhere on the map, not only from near distance.
